My Story

Sue Kauffman editor
After completing a desktop publishing certification, I continued my education at Carlow University, where I earned a B.A. in Professional Writing with a minor in Communications. While working full-time as a communications specialist for a large nonprofit, I began working at home at night as a freelance editor and page layout artist. I realized how much I loved the diversity of my freelance work and working with authors to help bring their dream to reality, so I turned my nighttime job into a full-time career.

Throughout my career, I have completed the edits of approximately 75 books, more than 200 academic articles for various journals, and numerous online learning modules. Current and past clients include Oxford University Press, Jones & Bartlett/Ascend Learning, Begell House, Cambridge University Press, Bloomsbury Academic, Palgrave Macmillan, Sage, and Guideposts.

As a page layout artist, I have created the layout for nonfiction books, including The Anti-Diet self-help and cookbook, and have typeset hundreds of academic articles, including Plasma Medicine, Journal of Long-Term Effects of Medical Implants, Critical Reviews™ in Therapeutic Drug Carrier Systems, and Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering. I have also designed numerous newsletters, annual reports, and brochures.

I am known to be meticulous, creative, efficient, and professional. I am an expert in Chicago Manual of Style and APA style and experienced in editing both American and British English as well as editing some works written by authors for whom English is their second language (ESL).

In my free time, I keep my creative juices flowing through painting and renovating my house. I live in the East End of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with my husband, two children, and dog.
